Diana's Night Stay

Friends… we talk with such freedom with them, how lovely that is. Sometimes I wonder, why can’t we all talk freely and with such closeness with our beloveds, too? I don’t know why we all hold ourselves back a bit when we talk with our beloveds. If I have to give reasons then I think there is a climax in love, but there is no such word when it comes to friendship.

It’s quite a thing with friends. We choose them at our will. We share our thoughts and talk our heart out with them. Our voices resonate with theirs and they listen. We believe in them blindly. Deep down, we know that they can’t be wrong at all. They are the silent voices within ourselves who talk without any words. They feel our pain as their own. They may not be able to help us completely at times, still, when they say, ‘I am there for you’, that statement calms the rising thunder within us. We don’t hear any other person when we are down in our lives, but we listen to our friends. I think friendship it is one of the most beautiful relationship that exists. Oh! Yeah, they are the keepers of our dirty secret too!

Diana raised her eyebrows. “What are you thinking of, Karma? And how is the live-in going on?”

I joked, “Uff … arrey mat pooch yaar, bas chal raha hai. ”

I have never ever lied to Diana. I may even tell small lies to Ghazal at times, but not Diana. Diana is the mirror of my life.

Diana, with a little laughter, she said, “Come on, Karma …be a sport, and tell me the headlines of it at least.”

I said, “Diana, I don’t understand life at all, man. I am with the love of my life and yet I have this strange void in me and I am not able to clearly voice that out with Ghazal. I try, but I feel I will hurt her more with my words and so I keep my thoughts within me and I swallow them. I would rather bite my own tongue and wound myself…The fear of losing her is greater than anything else in me. I love her a lot. I do.”

Diana said, “Mr. Zacharia is thinking of family planning and Ms. Kaul is currently not in that state of mind and she is unwilling at the moment.”

I said, “Bravo, my friend bravo… you dismantle me like a Lego piece yaar. See, you get me so easily and look at Ghazal… I don’t know, man. I feel that the veins of my heart fall short for her and I will not be able to hold her for long. I think my love is not good enough for her.”

Diana, in an angry tone, said, “That’s all rubbish, eradicate that garbage completely from your head. Karma, your love is pure. Don’t talk this gibberish with me.”

I said, “See, I know you are angry, and you didn’t like what I said.
